When I moved to Texas I watched “The Wizard of Oz” a lot, to help cheer me up. Later at my school, the Theatre Production class presented “The Wizard of Oz”; I was part of the production. I was the prop guy. Later on I started to look up Oz information like: How many Munchkins are alive? How it was filmed? Etc. Then I came across a picture of the ruby slippers at the Smithsonian. I noticed that the shoes where covered with sequins. After that moment I became a ruby slipper nerd.
My step sister called me “the Sheldon of the ruby slippers” referring to Sheldon from “The Big Bang Theory.” Eventually I made my own pair. A size 8 ½ pair shoe covered with glued red metallic sequins from Hobby Lobby. Like with building Muppet replicas, I wasn't pleased.
Now I’m making a better pair of replicas, with hand-sewn translucent burgundy sequins on to a size 6 pair of shoes, like the original pair. My first pair I give to my cousin as a gift.
